LMRL students excel at MUN conference in Poland

From 26th September to 1st October 2019, five members of our Lycée Michel -Rodange HOPE-club  – HOPE standing for Human Opportunities for Peace in Europe, the topic of an Erasmus+ project financed by the EU – succesfully participated in the ToMUN conference in Toruń, Poland.

Our team consisted of 5 students: Loulou NILLES (3CD1), Elisabeth KRIEPS (2CE1), Julie RIX (2CDG2), Naomi KNEIP (2CA1) and Laura MARX (3CC1). We were accompanied by our HOPE Club teachers Sandra Droste, Sandra Galli and Patrick Brücher.

ToMun is a simulation of the real United Nations (U.N). Many different committees such as WHO (World Health Organization), HRC (Human Rights Council), GA1 (Disarmament and Security), GA 4  (Special Political and Decolonisation) and UNESCO (The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization), were part of ToMun .

The main topic of ToMUN 2019 was HOPE for refugees. Every committee discussed topics around this, from our point of view, very relevant main subject and worked on appropriate resolutions. Our LMRL ToMun members represented the United Kingdom, Israel, France and Syria in the five previously mentioned committees.

We worked on political issues and could practise our debating skills in debates with fellow delegates from Germany, Belgium, Slovakia, Poland, USA, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Hungary, and other countries

Our congratulations go to Loulou NILLES (3CD1), who won the award for the best delegate of GA1. Needless to say, we are also a bit proud of the rest of us as we all gave our very best in our councils and were happy to see that a number of our contributions could make it into the final resolutions.

All in all, ToMUN 2019 was an amazing experience that helped all of us to improve our English and debating skills. Furthermore, it enhanced our self-confidence and gave us the possibility to make international-friendships.

Julie RIX (2CDG2) and Laura MARX (3CC1)
